Melick’s Town Farm, located at 472 County Rd 513, Califon which is about one hour from your Beacon apartment, is the largest apple grower in New Jersey with over 650 acres of land including 120 acres of fruit trees, 5,000 peach, nectarine and plum trees and 20,000 apple trees.

They also press their own fresh apple cider and also have hard cider and apple wine, in addition to you-pick apple activities. Bring the entire family —and don’t forget your camera—for a very special, fun filled day in the orchard!

Alstede Farms, located at 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester which is about one hour from your Beacon apartment, offers over 20 apple varieties including Gala, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious which are available for picking every day.

15Sep

The air may be finally getting cooler after a fun three months of summer, however, that’s no reason to stay indoors – there are tons of fall activities happening this month, especially in a city near so much natural beauty like Jersey City.

One favorite September pastime is, of course, apple picking, and near your Beacon apartment there are more than enough orchards to get your fill of Granny Smith, Mackintosh and Red Delicious for baking apple pies, apple crumbles or even just having a snack.

Demarest Farms, located at 244 Wierimus Rd, Hillsdale which is about 45 minutes from your Beacon apartment, features well-manicured trees, spectacular views, and tasty apple varieties – home to more than 14 varieties of pick-your-own apples.

From September to November, they offer schools, families, friends and visitors an opportunity to enjoy breathtaking scenery, tractor-pulled hay wagon rides, pet and feed friendly farm animals, savor delicious honey, fresh pressed apple cider, apple cider donuts, homemade mixes, apple butter, fresh preserves, and other treats from the farm.

Riamede Farm, located at 122 Oakdale Rd, Chester which is about an hour from your Beacon apartment, features 34 varieties of apples ranging from traditional classics to heirloom specialties to modern favorites.

The early apple varieties begin to ripen the first week of September when they open for their pick your own apple season. The other apple varieties ripen over the course of the next six to seven apple harvest weeks and a weekly trip to Riamede is necessary to catch each variety at its apple tree ripened best!
