Support These Black-Owned Businesses in Jersey City

As protests and social change have made their way across the United States, many of us are trying to find ways we can help our black friends, family and neighbors make a change for the better.

One way we can be supportive in Jersey City is quite simple – we can support our local black-owned businesses by dining at their restaurants or purchasing goods from their stores. It’s a simple act in which we can make a difference!

The Grind Shop, located at 360 Communipaw Ave #3722, Jersey City which is a five minute drive from your Beacon apartment, is a counter-serve café known for their La Colombe coffee drinks and pastries in a simple space.

Established in 2015, The Grind Shop is the result of three partners from varying fields of fashion, food, and design and their obsession with coffee and “coffee culture.” Since these friends call Jersey City their beloved home, they knew there was no better place to bring their business.

Jerkin Chicken, located at 234 West Side Ave, Jersey City which is 10 minutes from your Beacon apartment, is an established, family-run restaurant doling out traditional Jamaican food in a laid-back environment.

For over 20 years, the Mckenzie family has been running Jerkin Chicken for the restaurant’s dedicated crowd of supporters. They started with a simple concept – to provide customers with an authentic taste of Jamaica, the Mckenzie’s native island. Of course, you can’t leave without trying their jerk chicken, which contains no GMOs, hormones or animal by-products.
