Departed Soles Brewing Company, located at 150 Bay St #2a, Jersey City which is about 10 minutes from your Beacon apartment, opened in 2015 as the result of two friends’ love of beer.

While the brewery produces all sorts of craft beer, it is proud to be New Jersey’s first craft brewery offering craft beer with 100% gluten-free ingredients that can compete on the palate with traditional ales. Whether you are gluten-free or just want to try something new, you’ll love the beers at Departed Soles!

Celebrate National Pasta Month at These Jersey City Eateries

01Oct

As if you needed an excuse to indulge in some tasty pasta, October is National Pasta Month which recognizes one of the most popular types of food with over 600 different shapes of pasta produced worldwide! No matter the shape, some of our favorites are located right here in Jersey City.

If you’re craving a bowl of hot, comforting pasta, check out some of these eateries known for their amazing pasta located near your Beacon apartment. Don’t feel guilty… hey, it is National Pasta Month!

Pasta Dal Cuore, located at 527 Jersey Ave, Jersey City which is about five minutes from your Beacon apartment, is known for their housemade pasta and other Italian specialties at this chic BYOB with a to-go counter.

Their menu is inspired by a variety of classic regional dishes; from the cuisine found in the valleys of the Italian Dolomites to the Ligurian coast, and down to the Puglian peninsula where the ancient trulli villages dot the sea-straddled landscape.

Roman Nose, located at 125 Newark Ave, Jersey City which is about eight minutes from your Beacon apartment, is a charming, snug spot with Italian comfort food and creative cocktails, plus a notable beer and wine list.

Roman Nose is the culmination of Maria and Ruggero Fiore’s journey from a small farming village in the Lazio region of Italy (between Rome and Naples) to the heart of Jersey City’s blossoming culinary scene. Together with their sons Frank and Raymond, they wanted to create a warm, welcoming, and relaxed trattoria atmosphere in which to share their love of high-quality, simple, clean food using the freshest ingredients.

Italian Wine & Cheese Pairing

23Sep

On Thursday, September 26th, Van Hook Cheese and Jersey Wine & Spirits will co-host one of their monthly pairing classes with two instructors who bring the class through five pairings. They’ll discuss the history, production techniques, tasting notes, and thought that goes into each component of the pairings that you’ll taste.  Italy produces a stunning variety of wine and cheese and there’s something for everyone! Hopefully you discover a new wine and cheese to share with your friends and family.

Van Hook Cheese and Grocery is a family-owned cheese and specialty grocery store located in downtown Jersey City.  They focus on high quality and local products.  If you have a party to attend this fall, we highly suggest purchasing a cheese platter through them.  Prices range from $100-$150 and are sure to impress! You can also skip the lines and pre-order cheese which is cut the day of pick up to ensure freshness.  Van Hook Cheese also has outstanding grilled cheese sandwiches, which are served on sourdough Pullman with hand-churned butter from Normandy.

Jersey Wine & Spirits is a first class liquor store that offers a wide selection of wines, beer and spirits.  They have a very knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. They have excellent reviews on Yelp and are definitely a favorite in Jersey City.

All About Downtown Street Fair

18Sep

Downtown Jersey City’s premier event of the season is right around the corner! The annual All About Downtown Street Fair began in 2011 and featured over a hundred vendors selling a variety of products ranging from handmade jewelry to one of a kind artwork. Seven years later in 2018, the event brought over 40,000 people into downtown Jersey City and over 200 vendors selling everything from vintage clothes and handmade soaps to gyros and empanadas.

This is a fun filled all-day event. Local bars and restaurants set up outdoor beer gardens and rum bars and attendees dance to a variety of music. There’s no shortage of food as vendors feature cuisines from around the world that prove Jersey City’s title as the Most Diverse City in the United States!

If you’re planning on this being your “cheat day” we suggest starting with the No Forks Given booth.  These sandwiches are over the top and stuffed to the rim.  Try their famous fried chicken sandwich with special sauce and pickled onions.  You can also find their food truck at 2 Grand Street in Jersey City.  After your tasty sandwich head over to Glazed and Confused for some delicious donuts, canivale for their crazy milk shakes, or Freetown Road Project for some sweet banana cake.  This is Freetown Road’s first All About Downtown Street Fair, but you may have seen them at the Jersey City Night Market in Journal Square.  Chef Claude Lewis is the executive chef at Porta in Jersey City and also won Chopped on Food Network in March 2019.
